Twemoji for Chrome

What does the extension do?

Replaces default emojis with Twemoji (Twitter emoji library). Enables your browser to display colored emojis if your OS does not support it. The extension should work automatically after installation. You can download the extension from here:

The extension also provides a few options to manage the emojis, which are outlined below.




Floating menu

Click the extension icon to access Twemoji options. Use this menu to test how different settings will affect the current page. Click the extension icon again to hide the options. Note that the floating menu may load slowly on large pages containing many emojis.

Options page

Use the Options page to make the changes persist across all browser sessions. The Options page can also reset all settings to their default state. The Options pages also offers other settings that can be updated.

Limitations

This extension should work for 90% of web pages out there, but note the following technical limitations. Sites that load a lot of emojis per tab may cause the extension to freeze.

Note: This online portal is a work in progress. The goal is to create a set of pages that will contain images and videos of how the extension should be used. I've avoided adding any form of media in the extension's built-in help file to avoid unnecessary bloat to the final filesize. It would be less of an issue and more convenient to host the more detailed documentation online. Hopefully people will find this blog useful.
